Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students are creative, energetic, and resilient learners! They love reading to connect with unknown worlds and expand their perspectives. My fourth graders examine history to understand where we have been and how we can make the future brighter. They love to express themselves in debates, writing, movement, and drama. They are risk-takers, persevering through challenges to master new skills and solve problems. They give back to their community, finding meaningful ways to spread positivity.
My students deserve a classroom environment rich with resources that supports their growth and development.
We are a public school in a close-knit community on the southwest side of Chicago. Most of my students come from low-income families and face many hardships. School is a place where they learn how to grow their self-worth, build positive relationships, and soar academically. The foundation they build at school will enable them to have happy, successful futures.
My Project
A classroom rug fosters a supportive learning community and serves as an anchor for gatherings. A comfortable meeting area transforms the environment from cold and institutional to a welcoming home for learning. Gathering on the carpet is more engaging and effective for whole class instruction. It also provides an inviting space for morning meeting and peace circles.
Environment plays a big role in students feeling safe and brave enough to take academic risks.
A classroom printer will allow students to have the printed resources they need to execute activities and projects. It will give students more choice in using technology to complete and print assignments.
Weighted lap pads will help calm and refocus students with sensory processing issues, attention difficulties, and autism.
Classroom globes will help students understand their place in the world! They will be used throughout the school year as a reference point for historical and current events.
