My students need lap desks and clipboards for their interactive and flexible learning. In my classroom, students move around and are given the option of various seating options, so these allow them to complete work.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students are from a low-income/high poverty area, and many of them are from immigrant families. These student are often in charge of taking care of their younger siblings and have more responsibilities than your average middle school student. They face challenges both in and outside of school. Many of them do not have technology in their households to meet the needs of the ever-evolving classroom and world around them. That being said, they are still a huge inspiration to me every day. Because of my students, I am learning to be more patient, to be kind, selfless, and composed.
When in my classroom, I want my students to feel safe and comfortable by having consistent expectations and routines.
I teach ELA and many of my student read below grade level. They are reluctant to read and feel uncomfortable when they are required to read or work independently in class.
My Project
In my 6th grade ELA class, I am beginning to use flexible seating options during independent work time. To assist with their success, my students need clipboards and lap desks so they are able to complete written work. The materials of this project will sky rocket my students' success both as students and growing teenagers.
I am a strong believer that if students are comfortable when they are learning, they will absorb more of the content thrown at them.
This is true also of flexible seating. If you give them flexible seating options, you also need to give them the tools to be successful. In this case, that is clipboards and lap desks!
