My students have a strong love for school and are continuously showing me how resilient they are, even with this pandemic going on. They are eager learners and want to do their best work, whether it's on a screen, on paper, or doing an experiment in their backyard.
Many of my students do not have access to a reliable device or a printer during these uncertain circumstances.
Although these hardships are directly affecting my students and their families, many of them show up to do their virtual learning with me and it motivates me to push through these tough times together!
My Project
All of these resources will help me immensely as I navigate distance learning with my students! My first and second grade students' education is so important to me and continuing to teach these imperative skills is my mission. My students were learning foundational reading and writing skills, as well as simple math before school closures. Now my living room is my classroom. Therefore, it is very important that I have these resources to help them grasp the concepts and skills now so that they have what they need to succeed in the next school year. The paper will be helpful so that I can print packets out and mail them to the students without access to devices/internet. In order for me to do my best teaching, I need items like dry erase markers, post-its, and storage to recreate a teaching environment, but in my own home. I laminate flashcards and mail those out to students, so these laminating sheets will really come in handy! The cart will help me organize these teaching manipulatives at home, but eventually will be used to store iPads. Once we can get back in the classroom, the short organizer will be a huge help in storing headphones and help to keep minimal germ-spreading. My goal is to provide a somewhat normal structure during these times and to be prepared for hopefully coming back to my classroom in fall!
