Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Our school community is nestled within a large urban area. Diversity is celebrated and honored within our community of learners who speak five different languages in my classroom alone. Free breakfast and free lunch are available to every child in our building each day, which are now remotely served.
My students are creative thinkers, artists, athletes, scientists, writers, readers that demonstrate a passion for learning whose world has changed forever quite suddenly within the last few months.
They would benefit from a variety of classroom resources to foster their success with the new distance remote learning platform. As of March 16th, my students began their learning home. School is closed due to the COVID-19 virus for the rest of the school year. This presents many challenges for students who do not have access to learning supplies in their homes.
My Project
As a third grade teacher I have facilitated many learning opportunities for my scholars in our learning studio at school and now online. Students are not able to leave their homes due to the quarantine. My students need writing and math journals, a book to read and keep that will make them laugh during these difficult times when we cannot be together.
My scholars have a passion for learning they love to write, read funny stories, and have a passion for math.
I have carefully selected materials that would additionally support their learning since school is closed for the rest of the year. When and if we open they will be fourth graders. These learning materials are selected for grades 3/4.
