This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I am a seventh grade Social Studies teacher in the city of Chicago. There are many challenges that face my students each day. My students come from diverse backgrounds and are from low-income families. The majority of our families fall below the poverty level.

Despite all of this, I am lucky to be working with a group of students who are eager and motivated to learn.

Their eagerness motivates me to find new ways to improve instruction. The pride and excitement on their faces as they are growing as learners is very rewarding.

My Project

Integrating technology into the Social Studies classroom is essential in constructing knowledge and keeping students actively engaged. Unfortunately, we do not currently have enough Chromebooks for my students to all have enough access to technology.

The ability to conduct research, locate and navigate through internet resources is a skill all students should be exposed to in this day and age.

Throughout the year, I incorporate various research projects into my Social Studies curriculum including a History Fair project. My students love to engage in these types of projects but it is always challenging to find the time for them to have access to the internet with our limited resources.

These requested two Acer Chromebooks will help to give my students more access to the technology they need to help them be successful in the classroom and beyond.
