Mrs. Young from Miami FL is requesting computers & tablets through DonorsChoose, the most trusted classroom funding site for teachers.
Help me give my students two tablets with screen protectors and cases so they can research and develop skills in financial literacy through the arts.
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My students come from a mixture of backgrounds and academic abilities and enjoy working together to learn and grow. My classroom consists of a mixture of ninth-twelfth grade students who struggle with reading and writing skills.
On average, my students are on the forty-first percentile rank on the FSA English Language Arts.
Many of these students are also English Language Learners who struggle with all subjects. My students also confess that they do not have the means or the funds to purchase basic materials, such as paper and pencils for school because their parents do not have high paying jobs.
The average income in our area is around $28,000, and most of the families have two or three students to support. This makes it difficult for my students to afford materials to do hands-on projects. These students need additional support and motivation to be successful in school to meet their criteria to graduate. I know my students come to school ready and willing to learn. I believe that innovative projects and assignments help them succeed and learn new techniques that will help them not only in my class, but in their core areas where they struggle the most.
How much does a graphic designer make? What does it cost to create a mural? What is the material cost of a large sculpture? These are questions that I want to help my students answer!
With this project I hope to include Financial Literacy and Digital Safety into my art curriculum, working with students who have little knowledge of the visual arts.
My students are always asking bright questions about possible futures in the field of art. Many would like to study fine arts in college and pursue careers that would normally not be available to them. I want them to be able to learn about financial literacy and how they can manage their funds correctly to not only create beautiful artwork but be able to sell and support themselves. Also, I would like my students to have the necessary skills to be safe in the digital world. They need to understand how not to put personal information online and these tablets would help show them real world examples.
With the requested tablets I would have my students research careers in the arts and how much those careers earn. They would use these tablets around the classroom as I do not have computers in my classroom. I would protect these tablets with the requested case and screen protectors.
These tablets would allow my students to be on the move and share their technology with others. These tablets would bring much needed technology into our classroom as our current technology is antiquated and barely works!
