My fifth graders have come to my classroom from all around the world. Students have come to our district from over 60 different counties and speak over 70 different languages!
They are extremely curious and ready to learn!
I have an amazing group of 27 excited fifth graders with very diverse learning needs - from students with special needs to English language learners, gifted students, and everything in between. My students come from a wide variety of backgrounds- ethnically, socioeconomically, and geographically.
My Project
My students will be working on a project where they will be focused on researching African American heroes. Having the right resources in my classroom will allow my diverse group of students to see themselves reflected in literature. I am so excited that this project will give each of my students an opportunity to learn about someone different!
I have chosen a number of texts at a variety of levels.
For example, "I am Harriet Tubman" is a text that may be appropriate for lower level readers and more accessible for my English Language Learners. On the other hand, texts such as "Hidden Figures: The True Story of Four Black Women and the Space Race" will challenge some of my higher lexile readers. Students will be using their research to complete an informational biography project and will present their research to the rest of our class!
