Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My class has 11 students from first grade and 8 students from Kindergarten. All of them are students who are passionate about learning, and enjoy hands-on activities, especially activities that involve technology. They are all Spanish-speaking students and receive most of their instruction in Spanish.
My students are really eager to learn more about the world.
It is really difficult to find informational text in Spanish that are appropriate for them according to their reading levels and background knowledge: internet resources have became a precious tool for their learning.
My Project
My students need tablets to get more resources in their native language. My students' native language is Spanish. Since they are currently attending a bilingual and bi-literate classroom it is very important to have resources available for them in both languages.
It is really difficult to find informational texts in Spanish that are appropriate for my students' age and reading levels, because of this, having access to the internet through tablets is a must for them.
The Internet offers a variety of tools (such a videos) and texts that the students can access according to their needs.
Thanks to the tablets, I will be able to select some videos and websites that my students can visit during independent work time. They will be able to access the given websites and read the information they need to enrich their research abilities, to practice reading, to practice writing and learn more about the places that are not part of their community.
