My students need more Chromebooks to conduct research projects, type essays, create presentations, read books online, learn to code, among many other things.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My inquisitive hardworking 5th graders attend a large public elementary school in the South Bronx. Many of my students live in temporary homes, are in foster care, or live in multi-family apartment homes. My students are all below grade level with a wide range of skills.
Despite any hardships that they face out of school, my students are genuinely excited to learn.
They are full of enthusiasm and a love for learning. As their teacher I want to provide them with the tools and experiences that they need to be successful in life.
My Project
Thanks to generous donors, our classroom has been able to acquire some Chromebooks. I must say, these Chromebooks have been a complete hit in my classroom! I originally put up a project for Chromebooks so that my students can conduct research, but they have been used for so much more. They are conducting research, typing essays, creating presentations, completing Google coding activities, practicing their reading skills on Raz-Kids. The Chromebooks are used every single day and there is always a waiting list for who will get to use them next. Students even ask to stay up during recess just so they can have a turn using them.
Having Chromebooks in the classroom will allow my students to gain the 21st century skills needed for the real world.
Having these Chromebooks in our classroom has opened a world of possibilities for my students. My students are practicing skills that they will need for middle school, high school, college, and their future careers. Many of my students do not have access to technology with internet at home, making it difficult for them to do research, type, complete coding activities, and use educational websites beyond school hours. Having Chromebooks will allow my students to have access to current technology and to a world of knowledge.
