I am a fifth grade teacher at P.S. 169 in Sunset Brooklyn, New York. We are a Title One school in a low-income neighborhood. In school we are trying our best to teach our children how to write in many different styles. Unfortunately, when trying to teach the children how to conduct research, we lack the resources that an encyclopedia would provide. Having encyclopedias in class would not only help the children learn how to write a good research paper, but would also open the doors for more exciting learning. These encyclopedias would also be shared with the rest of the fifth graders who need to look up information or use it just for fun reading.
