The last year of elementary school, 5th grade is an important transitional year. A time for students to strengthen the skills they have gained throughout their educational careers thus far and develop them even further in preparation for middle school. Fifth graders build on what they learned by thinking and analyzing in deeper ways. They are encouraged and expected to be more independent in their learning, requiring them to research a topic for evidence and support. My students need materials that will take their researching skills to the next level!
The students I teach are learning how to be independent thinkers, learners and responsible citizens for their future and more importantly, our future!
My class is a diverse set of general education and special education learners at a Title I school. Most of our students qualify for the free breakfast and lunch program. The student population is 33% Caucasian, 26% Hispanic, 12% Asian, 11% African American, 28% other.
My Project
Having 4 Chromebooks is our class will ignite my students' passion to learn and research more! As you know, technology is a way of life in today’s world. My 5th graders need to be prepared for the future. I want to give my students the opportunity to do their own research on different topics we are learning. Having access to Chromebooks will give them the ability to dig deep into a topic and find multiple interpretations of what they are studying. Having Chromebooks will also help my students to become familiar with researching and navigating a computer, a skill they will need for the rest of their lives.
