My Project

One of our writing units focuses on research-based writing. Students research, take notes, and then create their own nonfiction books about an endangered animal.

This project incorporates our science concepts and not only asks students to write informatively about their animal and its habitat, but also to write persuasively, calling on readers to make a change and help these animals in some way.

By adding nonfiction these nonfiction books to our classroom, students will practice researching from a variety of resources, not just digitally. These books are also high interest and will go toward students' free choice independent reading when not in this writing unit.
