My Students

Our students come from a diverse range of backgrounds with a wide variety of socio-economic classes and ethnicities represented. We have a strong ELL (English Language Learners) program and a large Special Education population. Despite the struggles that some of our students face at home, they come to school ready to learn and play.

Our students are wonderful 6-8th graders who work hard to be the best that they can be.

This project will give our students an opportunity to look into the lives of people around the world and learn from their cultures.

My Project

Our school is composed of students from countries all around the world. Some of our students have families that have been here for several generations and some of our students have arrived to our country weeks before. Our teachers and staff recognize the need for students to be able to learn about and understand their culture and heritage, no matter now long the students have been in the United States.

We would like to provide books for students to research the countries of their origin so that they can connect with their history.

Throughout the school year students are asked to connect with their history. Social Studies classes, Language Arts classes, or even in their Foods classes ask students to explore parts of their history. Students love to explore about their past, and these books will allow them to learn from not only their experience, but also to have the history and culture from the country. These books are checked out from the library frequently, not only for assignments, but for pleasure reading as well.

It would be so wonderful to get the Cultures of the World series books as they put together text and images in a way that is easy for students to understand and learn from. I have searched through all of their books, compared them to the countries where our students come from, and have chosen the resources that would be best for our students. Thank you for your support in helping our students get the resources they need.
