Research, Create, Print, Accomplish! From Fourth To College!
My students needs four Chromebook laptops, a printer, charger and ink. It will give my students an accessible way to create, print and submit projects.
Accomplishment is a powerful feeling! Achieving goals by way of tangible projects is a valuable way to boost a child's personal as well as their academic self-esteem. Being able to show off to the world a completed project that they worked so hard on is a priceless motivation. Want to help me?
The students in my class are hard working and exceptional learners.
They are full of energy and eager to gain knowledge. I love how they always have smiles on their faces.
My goal is to have my fourth grade students be even more engaged in the learning process by using technology that is not readily available to them at home to complete assigned projects.
They love to write and have just started learning to type. Although their typing skills are still developing, they work their little fingers off to get their information into the computer. They save their work and I slowly email their completed work to myself. Then the real challenge begins! Finding a printer somewhere in the building that works so I can print all 29 "amazing narratives" is daunting.
The time frame from completion of their writing to the actual product in their little hands can be dragged out to a couple of months.
Even when locating a working printer it is very difficult to download and print 29 essays.
My Project
Our school is situated in a busy Queens neighborhood and is considered a high poverty school. In order to provide my students with that tangible feeling of accomplishment and learning through technology, I am requesting four chromebook laptops and a printer. This will allow my students access to easily research, create, complete and print out their projects, without the pressure of home life and school budget limitations. They love to research and create amazing reports, brochures, and presentations to share with their families and peers.
After completion the students always have the opportunity to practice their public speaking skills. By presenting to their peers they are preparing for college. Parents are able to see the progress their children have made through classroom writing celebrations. Sharing their projects really helps bridge cultures and families and makes our school community stronger.
Having readily available laptops and a printer in my classroom puts the technology in my students hands quickly.
It makes it easier to gain access to resources needed for my students to complete their projects and to feel that amazing feeling of accomplishment, success and motivation. It will give my students' the confidence to share what they created with their peers and families. The availability of the computers in the classroom will lead to an unlimited amount of student led projects.
