Help me give my students sensory wands, shaker tubes, Twidget Trackers, a GumFun Finger Strengthener, and other items to improve their fine motor skills and give them access to movement opportunities!
This year I have taken on a new adventure! I moved to a school that provides services to students and individuals (preschool - age 21) with severe cognitive and physical impairments. This school services individuals with severe disabilities within the district and other local districts that exhibit a need for highly specialized educational support for individual students. I couldn't be more excited to begin this new adventure.
These students work so hard, despite the many challenges they face because of disabilities, disrupted home lives, being homeless or in danger of homelessness and living in poverty.
Students face additional challenges including speech and language disorders, ADHD/ADD, physical impairments, cognitive impairments and health issues like seizure disorders.
Our classroom will truly be their home away from home. In our classroom, we will be a family, and everyone will work to do their best and to be their best every day.
My Project
My students need opportunities to move, explore their senses, and improve their gross and fine motor skills. The items in this project will help them accomplish all of these things!
Many of my students have weak fine motor skills and need daily opportunities to strengthen these skills.
With tools like a GumFun strengthener, Twidget Trackers, and a Linzy skill plush, students will be able to practice pushing, snapping, zippering, and pulling while strengthening their weak fine motor skills. Students who need sensory input will love tools like the glitter wands and shaker tubes. All of these new items will provide fun movement opportunities during our recess time. Whether it is warm and sunny or cold and snowy, students will be able to interact with these new tools, and engage in activity with their peers! Students will love cheering one another on while using these tools. This project is all about whole body fitness, fine tuning motor skills, and encouraging appropriate peer interactions through good sportsmanship skills.
