My Students

I teach in an inner city Title 1 school. All of my students receive free breakfast and lunch. My students are low income kids who are not able to purchase the "extras" in life, such as having their own copy of a book. Many of my students are Hispanics, African-American, a few Asians, and a few Caucasians. My student are from one-parent families and are even parents themselves. They are all reading below grade level.

I would like to have enough books for my students to have their own copy.

I believe that by having their own book, they will enjoy the novel more as we have special projects for each novel.

My Project

I am excited to share The Crucible, The Giver and finally Speak with my students.

I am planning on having the students have their own copy of the book so they will be able to mark the book to make it more meaningful for themselves.

We are going to have various projects with each book. I feel the students will appreciate the stories more by being able to take their book with them. The students will be able to explore the various topics and issues in the novels. My goal is to have the students engage in the novels as they think about themselves and others in the class.
