We have a wonderful community where elementary teachers know all of the students k-6, high school teachers know all students 6-12, but most teachers know all students k-12 and beyond. Parents will request for their kids to attend our school when other schools aren't working for them. We have wonderful diagnostic opportunities for kids so we know where every kid is all the time, and we meet regularly to talk about student data and progress, what we can do for them individually, personally, and of course academically.
My students have big dreams, it's something I love about this age.
I have in my classroom future NBA stars, doctors, lawyers, and veterinarians, and that's just the first four kids I surveyed. I must inspire them to keep learning. I refuse to let their big dreams die in my classroom. Motivating them to do their best on the skills I'm required to teach is my way of helping them be successful later.
My Project
We often have a playground full of active kids K-5. Though our kids are still active in the current cold weather, our quality materials are running low due to exposure to the elements. Many of the basketballs, volleyballs and soccer balls are no longer holding air as well as they once did, and frequently need to have air added to them to bounce effectively and maintain air pressure. We also share materials with several grades, so if grade levels choose to play together, they may not have enough balls for the sport they are practicing. The chalk is often used by lower grades to make hop scotch designs or to draw creatively.
Our students are active and enjoy participating in athletic games at recess such as volleyball, basketball and soccer, but equipment for recess needs replaced.
The volleyballs chosen have a soft outer leather, which should make them good for cold or warm recess. The basketballs have hand placements for proper form. Our kids enjoy the variety of games we have, but our supplies are dwindling and replacements would be appreciated.
