I am the agriculture teacher at P. High School. My students enjoy hands-on projects and we use their creative minds often. I have 9-12 graders all choosing to be in my class as it is an elective.
I want my students to buy into this class so I allow them to use their creativity very often.
Many of my students are extremely hands-on and it is important they play an active role in their learning.
I also have students who come from low-income families and others with diverse learning disabilities. They each have their own personality that shows through their work. It can be really difficult to keep my students on track through lectures and discussions. This makes student-driven learning and application activities very important. I am also doing my best to give students the opportunity to learn the material through visual aids, written instructions, and verbal instructions which captures more of my learners.
As we get further into the semester, I realize my students need to be engaged through project work, but many do not have the supplies with them to complete a project on their own.
My Project
Students will use these uteri to dissect and determine parts of the uterus. Students will take learning into their own hands and identify parts of the reproductive tracts of female livestock specimens. This is an opportunity for students to get their hands dirty and actually see a very important reproductive organ.
A large part of the agriculture classroom is the opportunity to learn by doing.
This is a great classroom activity that students get to exercise this. This lab will be completed with my advanced agriculture students. I also truly believe the best way to learn is by seeing something in person and experiencing it! Just like a vet would dissect an organ to find out more information, students will be doing this during this lab.
