Help me give my students a better classroom library. Over the last 2 years of teaching, I've noticed that I need to do a better job of having books that represent all my students.
I teach 9 -10 years old who have a love for school. Each day they are becoming scientists, explorers, mathematicians, readers, and learning how to navigate in the world inside and outside of school. My students are becoming a united front and each and every day we work towards fostering an inclusive community in our room.
We all come from a mix of backgrounds and we use that to help build our learning and understanding for each other.
We are fourth graders learning from all different stages. We try our best to succeed but know we need accountability partners to help us when we get stuck.
My Project
This will be my third year in the classroom and I've noticed that I need more books that represent all my students. Books make a huge impact on our students' lives and if we don't have books that show them in all kinds of roles, we're doing a disservice. I want my students to be represented in all the books I encourage them to read, if I don't, I'm doing them a disservice and not being the best teacher I can be. These books will be used for read-alouds and for students to check out and read during their IDR time. They will also be used to replace outdated books I currently have. Books are expensive and I've been able to slowly change them out over the last few years, but this project will help me switch out over 20 books and make a bigger impact in our classroom library.
