This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Project
The school I teach in has a population of about 95% African-American students. What makes them special? Being themselves! I love each and every single of my students for their own uniqueness. The majority of my students come from low-income households which can provide extra hardships, however school is the place that they can come to for security, safety, love, and to learn. My students love to come to school and are working hard each day to grow.
Black history is US history and the books in this project offer empowering representation for the students in my classroom!
Students learn best when they feel comfortable, respected, and connected. The books in this project would be a great addition to the classroom library.
My school offers African American studies as a specials course to all elementary students and the students love to learn about their history! It would be amazing to kick off this year's Black History Month celebration with some new books to read in the classroom!
