Hello! My name is Paige Young and I am a Special Education teacher. Before school, I help a talented group of fourth-grade students in creating a weekly news broadcast for the entire school.
These incredible students are eager to learn more about broadcasting and creating!
I love watching their confidence grow as they get more and more comfortable in front of the camera and how they work and create together. They are learning valuable lessons for their future in education and future careers.
My Project
At our school, we are learning to use technology for our future. We are in need of a green screen with lighting and a tripod for our iPad in order to create a weekly news cast to broadcast to the entire school body. Fourth-grade students conduct interviews, create skits, report calendar events, and current news for their classmates each week.
These talented students are learning to work in teams and problem solve as they listen to ideas and decide on content.
Currently, the students have taped green butcher paper to the wall as their green screen. Because of the taped together screen and lack of lighting, their weekly production is low quality.
They have discussed how the products requested will benefit the entire school. Our theater teacher has shared that all grade levels, kindergarten through fourth grade, can use the green screen to create in the theater. The school librarian has students create recorded book recommendations that could be done using the green screen and recording materials.
Our staff is searching for a new way to reach the busy working parents of our students and meet them where they are instead of them always having to come to school. We would like to use the green screen and recording materials to create videos that parents could watch on the go or at home and still be connected and involved in their child's learning.
