My students are extremely motivated and focused on getting to graduation. My students are from various ethnic and socioeconomic backgrounds; however, they share the connection of having some form of disability.
I exclusively work with students who have a mild/moderate disability at a Title I school.
They are mainly "invisible" ones. These disabilities include (but are not limited to) ADHD, Specific Learning Disability, Depression, Anxiety, and high functioning Autism.
My students are driven, and they want the same exact things as their non-disabled classmates; however, they face higher rates of drop out and homelessness based on their disabilities, personal perspectives, and limited opportunities. Much of their lack of success is because of their low executive functioning skills.
My Project
Currently, when working with students via Zoom, it has proven difficult in being able to replicate the ease of in-person teaching- specifically when thinking about the ability to write on a whiteboard in a classroom for math problems, explaining the interactions of different pieces of history, and science models (just to name a few). When working online, without a tablet and writing utensil that replicates the ability like a whiteboard, getting your point and the ideas across has proven difficult.
These resources will allow me to more closely be able to more closely replicate what it's like in a classroom with a whiteboard.
Being able to connect the iPad to my computer will allow me to use it as a true tablet and mirroring experience for my students. The pen allows me to mirror a more smooth writing experience, instead of needing to write it out through a laptop trackpad. The AirPods allow my students to hear me more clearly, instead of through the broken headphones I currently use, or the grainy built-in microphone.
