This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
I absolutely adore my school! We are a family that clearly sticks together no matter what. In September of 2017, our school burned down after Hurricane Irma. Since then, the community has come together and truly supported us. They provided basic supplies for all of our students last year, and we still had some supplies leftover. It was amazing to see the amount of donations pouring in from people we have never met. I am forever grateful.
Because we are a Magnet school, my classroom is very diverse.
My students come from various neighborhoods within the county, and very different home cultures and socioeconomic statuses. Many students are unable to purchase their own supplies, or donate supplies to keep up with our classroom needs. As a result, we are getting to the point where many supplies are running low. We need your help to make sure we have the basic materials necessary to be successful scholars!
My Project
We need basic classroom supplies to replace those that we have used! We use a lot of pencils, paper, sticky notes, glue sticks, and markers throughout the year. These materials help us to complete our work and show our learning.
Having our basic classroom needs met helps to remove a very common learning barrier.
The same situation applies to me as a teacher. The paper cutter, stapler, and whiteboard markers also help me to prepare materials and teach lessons effectively. The paper cutter has been on my wish list for quite some time, as it helps me prepare materials more effectively. When I am prepared, my students are more successful.
