Help me give my students several replacement supplies that we use regularly in our classroom. We regularly use laminating sheets and velcro to make books adapted to meet the individual needs of our students.
I teach at a school for students with moderate disabilities from ages 5-22. The students in my classroom are in Kindergarten but, this project would benefit all elementary students at our school. We enjoy making messes and learning through play.
We are a busy little group that is full of excitement for hands-on learning.
We are full of energy and need frequent "brain breaks" to get our many wiggles out. There is never a dull moment in our classroom! We are always learning valuable life-skills during each moment of our day.
My Project
The making of adapted and hands on materials require the use of many materials that often come out of a teachers pocket. We use laminating sheets and velcro daily in our classroom to make these adapted materials to meet the individual needs of our students.
Having the ability to move manipulatives within books and other hands on materials assist our students with their learning needs and make lessons much more engaging.
Our students also use these materials to communicate with using PECS (Picture Exchange Communication System). We take the laminated images of cards that our students use to communicate with and velcro them into a binder that allows our non-verbal students to communicate with others.
The use of the tumbling mat and adapted bubble machine is needed for our students who have more physical needs. The use of the tumbling mat is needed to allow our students with physical needs to stretch out on a soft and safe space. The use of the adapted bubble machine will allow our students with more physical needs to participate in fun play activities with their peers through the use of activating a button switch with a simple movement of their head or a tap of their hand to turn the bubbles on.
