Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students are some of the smartest thinkers out there. I teach 6th, 7th, and 8th grade advanced reading and yearbook which are electives that my students have chosen to be in. My readers range in level, interest, abilities, socioeconomic status, ELL status, but one thing that all of my students have in common is their love of reading.
My students take my class as an elective which means they have chosen to take a reading class in addition to language arts; this shows that intelligence, empathy, and growing as a person are important to them.
As part of an amazing school that celebrates diversity and success, I am proud to say that I teach some of the best kids in the school
My Project
I have quite a large classroom library, and although it is one of my prides and joys, it is hard financially to keep it up to date and the books in good order.
Often, students ask for a book, and I don't have it because it has either been misplaced, worn down over time, or I haven't been able to purchase it yet.
And although we are lucky to still have a school library, not all titles can be found in their as well.
This project is exactly what it sounds like: it is replacing books that have been lost or worn down and ordering some sequels and new books that I have not been able to get for my students yet.
My students love to read--let's keep getting them books to keep them reading!
