Replacment of 12 Year Old Printer
My students need to have 2 reliable printers throughout the building to be able to complete their technology assignments.
We have all had to deal with the frustration of dealing printers: clicking print and walking to the printer, only to see an error message!
My school/students are in a lower socioeconomic area that is often looked at as being inferior to some of the other schools in the area.
Having old, outdated, and/or non-working technology only adds to these incorrect views of my school. I love my students and I believe that they should have access to necessary technologies while at school.
In my class, I am teaching my students how to type and use the technology that is available at the school that way when they go through the rest of their school career and move into the work force they will be able to recognize and use some of these technologies. In teaching my students how to use new technologies if my students need to print an assignment or project they must feed one piece of paper at a time into the printer and hope it prints. This takes away from their classwork or my lecture time.
Students in my class are using a printer that is at least 12 years old (this is how long I have been in this district), with the hopes that it will work when they need it to.
In other parts of the building, they have no direct access to a printer at all, and must wait till later in the day to get their printout, or leave their current room missing instructional time all together.
