Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students are from Aransas Pass, Texas. Most of them are from a low socioeconomic background. Our town and school were severely impacted by Hurricane Harvey on August 25, 2017. We are still in recovery mode and realizing our ongoing needs.
Regardless of the ongoing difficulties from the hurricane my students are resilient learners.
I love to see the excitement on their faces as they enter the classroom ready to learn. My students are curious and eager to learn new things. Since we are a low socioeconomic district, many students do not have the same resources as their peers in more affluent districts. Fortunately, the lack of resources does not hamper their enthusiasm and love for learning.
My Project
My project will help my class during station time. With the toner, I will be able to print colored games and materials to be used by my students. I create a lot of games and activities that are printed and laminated for reuse throughout the year. Our class also lost a lot of our station items due to water damage and mold from Hurricane Harvey. I would like to replace and update these items. We are in need of geometric shapes and ten frames for math, a literature based learning center and complete phonics set to compliment our reading program, sentence strips for interactive writing, replacement mentor texts that were damaged by mold(The Family Book, It's Okay to be Different and "Let's get a pup" Said Kate), and stem science kits for our science station.
My students and our district were affected by Hurricane Harvey thus limiting our funding.
Our class will need and appreciate these items for math, science and literacy time.
