This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Dear Wonderful Donors,
I am a proud teacher of 20 of the most fabulous third graders in California. My students are so great despite their many challenges. Many of my students struggle to learn English on an academic level and most live in poverty. They live in a dangerous and undesirable urban area, but they do not let their challenges hinder them from coming to school ready to learn and happy to be here. It's remarkable how much they love learning and school despite their home lives and challenging curriculum.
Last month our class received a listening center table and many great reading comprehension activities from a very generous donor. Then last week our audio center decided to take an early retirement and stopped working. In addition, many of our headphones are old, torn, and need to be replaced. Now we have a beautiful table and various listening center activities, but we need an audio center, storage and headphones to make it all work!
A listening center is a vital piece of my curriculum because many of my students do not speak English very well and need a model of what a fluent English speaker sounds like. In addition, I have seen a huge improvement in reading comprehension since I have been supplementing reading with audio books and activities using the listening center.
Please help my class by replacing our broken audio center, headphones, and storage center.
Your donation will benefit many students for years to come! This year alone it will benefit 80 students due to team teaching among my grade level.
