What would it sound like if you heard your favorite music, BUT was missing parts that are important. That is what we currently face with our percussion section instruments in our band program. Some of the music our students are learning require percussion instruments that have gone broken, missing or just doesn't have anymore life to them.
I currently teach 6th-8th Grade Band in a community that has a very diverse population. The band program serves approximately 200 students each year and over the years equipment needs to be replaced or updated.
We are currently missing or are short on percussion instruments that are vital to our band program. Already, the students are working on pieces that require more instruments than we currently have and we have to make substitutes or ask students to take turns since there is simply not enough to go around.
The students are very dedicated in learning and work extremely hard to become excellent students and musicians.
In order to make this happen we need the following items: 2 pairs of crash cymbals, replacement heads for our snare drums and drum set, auxiliary percussion as the shekere, slapstick and vibraslap which are used much contemporary and multicultural music we play. By having this equipment, all of our students will be able to participate in class without having to take turns and our band will sound complete by having the proper percussion instruments needed.
My percussionists need your help. They're great kids that do take pride in the equipment that we do have and are very responsible with our instruments.
