This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

The students of our high school - in particular, my students - demonstrate a level of resilience that is unparalleled by many of their peers. Many of them already face challenges due to circumstance - their identities, ZIP codes, and other systemic factors. In addition, all of them have been challenged by the destruction of their home school - a longstanding pillar of the Bachman Lake community - by a tornado during the fall of 2019.

Despite the challenges of circumstance that they face - a whole tornado included - the students have persisted in their learning and continue to take ownership of their academic growth.

An uprooting of their entire school community, while traumatic, has not diminished their will to learn and to engage in rigorous educational experiences.

My Project

After our high school was destroyed by a tornado in the fall of 2018, we have worked to resupply our rooms and adapt our instruction to fit what we had. In some ways, the storm pushed us to be innovative - my primary innovation has been taking my classroom fully digital, spiraling and building computer literacy and research skills.

This project helps further the re-equipping and digitization of my classroom by filling in the supply gaps and providing supplemental technologies that our students can use in enrichment.

By integrating these items into my room, students will be able to utilize unique technological platforms in new and exciting ways and have the supplies that they need to.
