it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
Typically, my students come from other countries where English is not the first language. Although some students come to me not speaking or understanding English, they are learning. Currently, my students have access to emergency district distributed Chromebooks and free or low cost Internet. They are also using pencils and paper to complete assignments. This is great, but they need more.
In class, we would use whiteboards, erasable markers to write our sight words, sentences, numbers and to solve equations.
At school, students were provided with large sized pencils, crayons and markers that are more appropriate and easier to use for small hands. While we are away from school, they do not have access to these items.
My Project
Having distance learning materials will greatly increase engagement and participation of my students during this difficult time. Online learning is new to all of us but not having some of the resources that we used in the classroom just make things exponentially worse.
Young children enjoy working with their hands and need the appropriate materials like larger sized crayons, pencils, whiteboards and markers.
In addition, when presenting online lessons, my students would be able to participate and keep up with me. When I am working with the letter tiles to form sight and word family words, they would be able to duplicate what I am doing in real time. Although students do have access to pencils, paper and chrome books, they are lacking critical developmentally appropriate resources that would augment individual learning styles.
