During the pandemic, our students are learning remotely. Not getting to see them every day is a challenge. I miss seeing their faces and expressions during my lessons. I miss hearing their questions and comments during classwork. I miss grading their physical work.
We don't have a set schedule!
Our district has asked the teachers to be available from 9-1, but our students are not required to follow a schedule. Some students are working in the wee hours of the morning!
Faculty and students have Chromebooks and that is how we communicate. Through Google Classroom, I post a video of my lesson and assign practice problems and other activities that the students submit by taking a picture of their work.
My Project
Although I have created some videos for my students, it has been difficult and time-consuming. With an iPad and stylus, I will be able to use my current Smart Notebook lessons, convert them to PowerPoints, share my screen in a Zoom meeting, and complete the lesson using the stylus.
Since I can record the lesson, students who cannot attend the meeting due to sharing of devices, taking care of siblings, and other family intricacies will be able to view it when they are available.
My hope is that these lessons will be as close to what the students would see if we were lucky enough to be in class together.
