Help me give my students online instruction similar to classroom experience with the use of printed materials and manipulatives that I lack at home and can no longer access from my school.
This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
This is my third year teaching at a struggling Brooklyn community-based high school. I love my job and my students, but we often cannot experience hands-on activities because of a lack of resources. The majority of my students come from low-income households and often cannot afford school supplies. More than 1/3 of my students struggle because of a range of special education needs.
Despite their hardships, they are enthusiastic and love to learn, especially through experiences.
I would really like to be able to provide them all the supplies and resources that will make their school year fun, exploratory, and stress-free. As a teacher at a community high school, I want to provide my students with the opportunities all kids deserve to learn and feel great about their progress.
My Project
I am currently teaching remotely and unable to access any of my classroom materials at my school due to COVID related closure. I have students who need materials mailed to them because of lack of online access. I also do not have all of the necessary materials I need at home to be able to provide quality online instruction. I cannot afford to pay out of pocket for my home printer ink, earphones, copy paper to be able to deliver hard copies as well as online supports for my students.
