I work with a unique group of dedicated, caring and energetic students. My school is committed to providing our students with the best educational opportunities. Remote learning has been hard on both the students and the teachers. It would be amazing if I could help give my students an edge by bringing the best possibly digital lessons on science topics to them.
My students need of a teacher who can access the most innovative apps and programs to bring the most to their remote education with a working computer.
I teach 7th grade in Bayside, NY. Many of my students are new to this country and speak a variety of different languages. Each student brings his or her own diverse background and experiences to the classroom. But the one thing they all have in common is their passion to learn. I try to utilize many different styles to address the diverse needs of my inquisitive learners.
My Project
Please help me to foster a community of continuous learning with my students remotely. Remote learning is not ideal but I am trying to unite and stay connected with amazing 7th grade students. My students are eager to learn the difficult science concepts and complete virtual science labs. Unfortunately, during these difficult times most of the technology our school had was given out to the students to use.
Since schools have gone remote, I have been using an old, slow, and very outdated work computer assigned to me to communicate with my students.
My work computer often freezes and logs out for no reason. Then I need to restart the computer, which can take up to 10 minutes. These are a critical 10 minutes when I can not see my students and they are no longer connected to me through google meet.
I teach live everyday to 4 different classes. Have the ability to stay connected to them at all times during class time is very important. I host at least 4 to 5 google meets per day. During some of those meets we attempt to do virtual science labs utilizing breakout rooms. But depending on the day, depends on whether my old work computer will open and access the site we need to go to. With a new computer, I can use my energy towards make new and exciting digital lessons instead of being frustrated by the waste of time spent on trying to get my computer to function properly.
