My students come from many different backgrounds.
I teach 3K, General education, inclusion class with students with autism and students with IEPs (Individualized Education Program). My students' remote learning circumstances are very difficult for them, a number of them have parents that are immigrant workers that are right now unemployed and are affected because of this pandemic. They come from a community filled with poverty, homelessness, and crime, but they are filled with hope. These children attend a public school in an industrial and commercial community of New York City.
As a trauma-informed teacher, I understand the importance of students freeing their mind and having a break and motivation. My students are Title I students. They are great students and love learning, especially when it's non-traditional learning. My kiddos are constantly using excess energy combating their stresses and trauma all throughout the school day. It is a basic recommendation to have a moment of joy.
When I had my students in my classroom I was able to offer them snack to eat, I would like to provide my students with the same at home.
My students all come from low-income families. They also are all students with learning disabilities, which makes learning much more difficult for them. At this time, many of my students are still missing technology and are still struggling with understanding assignments. I would like to send some care packages to my amazing students with a book and some goodies to help them through this difficult time. A few snacks and a pack of cards are a small gesture to show them that they are loved and missed. Also, a majority, if not all of my kids come from low-income areas. I think having a little snack might be helpful for them in times when food might be thin. My kids are very important to me and not being able to check up with all of them daily is very hard. Please help me provide a little bit of joy during this stressful time.
