Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I have the honor of being a Severe Language and Learning Disabilities educator in Paterson, NJ. I service students with autism, ADHD, and other communication impairments. The population I service already has a great disadvantage varying in abilities and educational levels.
Although my students abilities vary, their passion for learning is intense.
My students come from troubled neighborhoods and low income communities. A place where crime is high and education funding is low. Unfortunately during the year I have only 3 working computers to be shared and my students only get on a computer once every 6 days in their technology class. My students need consistency and a specific educational routine in order for them to function at their best.
My Project
Consistency and structure are two of the most important practices to remember when working with students with Autism! How can I provide these effective practices when some of my students do not have devices to participate in remote learning.
I will use these two devices to have students sign into Google Classroom, complete assignments, communicate with their peers and myself, and participate in virtual learning.
Having the opportunity to not only educate virtually, but to provide support and a new norm for my students is something that will only be possible if we had the proper technology.
