I teach English language learners in grades K-5 at a Title 1 school in Seattle, Washington. Our school has students from over 30 different countries who speak 20 different languages. My students are creative and engaged learners. Each tablet would be given to two families with four bright and curious children. One family is from Vietnam and the other Ethiopia. My students from Ethiopia arrived in the United States this past January. They are at home for an extended period during this world health crisis. These families have limited financial resources. A Samsung Galaxy Tab A is a tool that will help facilitate language acquisition with the support of images, videos and on-line tutoring. This also gives them the opportunity to connect with friends, family and teachers while away from school.
My Project
The Samsung - Galaxy Tab A (2019) will be used for my ELL students to help them access all the wonderful educational websites at home with their families during this world health crisis. Having access to educational websites will open up their world and help them develop academic skills in English as well as their primary language. In addition, they will have the opportunity to develop the digital skills necessary for success in the 21st Century. It is important that these students have the same opportunity to learn and explore the numerous educational websites available, and be able to connect with their teachers as easily as their more affluent peers.
