Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
(Everything below is still true. However, the world has changed...who knows for how long....) I don't want students just sitting using pen, pencil, and paper. That's not the world they live in.
My students are talkative, creative, and curious.
They enjoy activities during which it doesn't seem like I'm trying to teach them something (although I am) such as drawing a veggie or fruit as a superhero and sharing its superpower with 4 people and then drawing the hero's nemesis and sharing again, or having teams of students build a 30-centimeter tower out of link cubes that will support the weight of a basketball.
Many of my students have difficultly sitting still and quietly for an extended period of time in a "normal" classroom environment. They also live in a low-income area, and some of them don't have many toys or books. A few don't even have crayons and paper at home. Despite these challenges, my students are eager and excited to learn!
My Project
In this time of rushed remote learning, teachers need all the tools (and help) we can get.
I need a document camera to continue effectively teaching my students.
Many remote learning platforms include a virtual whiteboard. However, trying to write with a mouse is very difficult. Teaching and learning will be hard enough in this new environment. I don't want my students to struggle to decipher what I'm trying to write with a mouse.
Public education in my district is entering uncharted territory. Unfortunately, we are not prepared as well as we should be. Thank you for considering my project.
