Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I am a Teacher of the Deaf and Hard of Hearing in the Bronx, New York. The Bronx has been one of the hardest hit boroughs during the Covid-19 pandemic and most of my students have suffered in one form or another. My students are of low socioeconomic status, living below the poverty line. Current technology has proven to be essential during Remote Learning. Tech helps bring a sense of normalcy and routine to my students as they are able to virtually engage in lessons with me.
My laptop froze and the screen turned blue.
I nearly fainted! My trusty, eight year old friend was breathing its last electronic breath and I was stuck. How could I engage with my students and do my job effectively with problematic technology? I cannot. I am turning to you for help.
My Project
Having a reliable laptop is crucial during Remote Learning. Trustworthy technology helps me engage with my students via Google Classroom, Google Meet, Zoom, FaceTime, and Microsoft Teams.
During our remote Hearing lessons, my students and I continue to work on a varying list of goals, some of which include literacy, self-advocacy, auditory training, and comprehension.
A new laptop would allow me to present my lessons auditorially and visually, without the added worry of crashing. Your donations would help foster a dependable and diverse learning experience for my students and allow them to have a bit of normalcy in these trying times.
