My school is a K-8 school. We average 250 students. However, during the local crop harvesting and evergreen season, our numbers increase significantly. We have a high poverty rate, 63.5% of our students are eligible for free or reduced cost lunches. Our district is a poor district filled with disadvantaged students that come from single-parent, low-income families, or have at least one parent who did not earn a high school diploma. To many of my students, art was the highlight of their week. My students love to create and share their artwork. This would give my students an engaging way to continue their creativity and relationships.
My Project
During the COVID-19 school closure my students are missing art class and being together. I would like to have a webcam, light stands, flip charts, markers and pastels to bring them together through art class Zoom meetings. The resources and materials will help me create a bright, engaging, remote art classroom to instruct my students at home. I will conduct art lessons online with all my K-8 classes. I will use the materials to model techniques, designs and methods of ways to use different mediums. This grant would make this dream possible.
