My students need new kinds of technology, such as Sphero Robots and a Dot Robot, in order to learn applicable skills that are so important to know in this technology-rich world.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I am a school librarian in an inner-city school. Most of the students come from impoverished homes in which there are little to no luxuries, especially access to technology. This definitely doesn't stop their love of learning, though.
Therefore, when the students come to the library every week, I love giving them the opportunity to learn through hands-on activities that involve different kinds of technology.
They get so excited about learning and are totally engaged when they get to try new things. I want to give them every advantage I can in this technology-driven world. It's very hard to do this when there aren't any extra funds for this.
My Project
When the students come to the library every week, they work on a library lesson and then do book checkout. When students are done checking out or if they aren't able to checkout, they work at learning centers. My centers allow the students to explore different aspects of learning in fun and creative ways.
I want to give my students the opportunity to have hands-on experiences with technology and robots so that they can learn problem solving and gain critical thinking skills that they can use in the future.
The Sphero Robots, Dash Robot, and Code & Go Robot Mice will allow my students to practice these skills. By having both the Sphero robots and the Dash robot in two of my centers, the students will be able to practice their computer and coding skills. Having the Code & Go Robot Mice in another center will not only give the students the opportunity to practice their computer and coding skills, but they will also give them the opportunity to practice their math and reading skills. Having these robots in my library will give the students the chance to learn problem solving and critical thinking skills that will help them be successful in the future.
