Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Do you remember what it was like the first time you read a book that you couldn't put down? My students have not yet discovered books that capture their imaginations.
My students come from diverse backgrounds.
We are an early college high school with an environmental studies theme integrated across the curriculum servicing over 25 towns in CT. Students can begin to earn college credits starting in grade 11 at no cost. 69% of our student population is minorities. Over 55% of our students are eligible for free or reduced lunch. English is a second language for more than 9% of students. The majority of students come from urban areas.
My Project
The resources I am requesting are books and magazines that will inspire my students to develop a love of reading. These resources will be added to my classroom library and provide more high-interest books for the diverse population of students. With these books, I will be able to provide more opportunity for students to select books for independent reading.
This project is so important for my students because the majority of them have never had a positive experience with reading.
By selecting books that are of high-interest to the diverse population of the school, I will be able to provide students with books that could give them the positive reading experiences they have never had.
