I have 23 sweet second graders. They read passages, decode, and write a written responce, but would they choose to pick up a book and read for fun? My goal this quarter is to instill in all my readers a love for reading.
This is my first year back teaching and I need some help supplying books for our class read aloud.
I would like to supply each student with their own text to track the words as we read.
My Project
I have an amazing class of second graders who thrive in guided reading groups. We practice reading strategies and phonics in group. I want more for my students!
To me the most important part of teaching kids to read is helping them find the pleasure and their desire to read by modeling with read alouds.
Read aloud is time I do not feel we should strip from our young readers because it invites students to become apart of the world literacy creates. Read alouds motivate, encourage, help develop comprehension, and provides a chance for me to model fluent reading.
I would like to introduce my class to series books to hook them and create a desire within them to want to read more for pleasure. If I can turn them on to a series they desire to have a book in their hands. Unfortunately I do not have a class set of books to give my students. I am requesting a class set of The Chocolate Touch and Mercy Watson to the Rescue. I am thankful for your support in helping to create a positive reading environment in my classroom!
