Reliving Dylan's Newport Folk Festival Performance

My students need an acoustic guitar amplifier for our 10-member guitar class Enrichment Cluster.

Nearly every student in our brand-new public middle school in poverty-stricken East New York receives free or reduced lunch. Luxuries like guitars are hard to come by. Through the generosity of good people, 8 acoustic guitars have been donated to our school. Each week, during school, I conduct a guitar class with 10 students. Monday through Thursdays I teach English/Language Arts to sixth-graders, but on Fridays, my students and I trade in our pencils for guitars. Fridays at our school are Enrichment Clusters day, where students join/form groups based on their interests or skills. Learning guitar was a high interest at the school, and in fact, many students have been turned down this quarter, due to our limited number of guitars. So far my students have learned basic chords as well as how to play songs like Jingle Bells, the National Anthem, Twinkle Twinkle Little Stars, and even the "riff" from Michael Jackson's "Beat It" (they insisted we learn that). At the end of each school quarter, our small school gathers for an assembly, an Enrichment Cluster Showcase. At this showcase each "cluster" demonstrates what they've learned and accomplished. I'm hoping to obtain a guitar amplifier so that my students can step on the auditorium stage and feel like genuine rock stars. Students will be performing in no larger than groups of two, so one amplifier (with two inputs) will suffice. I will also use the amplifier in the guitar cluster class. This cluster will be repeated each quarter (and yearly). By donating, you will allow my students to "plug in" like Bob Dylan and show the rest of the school that despite not knowing a thing about guitars a month ago, a little practice and dedication will yield tremendous awards.
