Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
The Title I high school Reading and Language Arts students have a sense of hope and desire to succeed, in spite their daily challenges of living in undesirable home life conditions without appropriate basic school and technological supplies. As a result, the teacher always attempts to provide a safe haven for them at school by decorating the classroom, And purchasing enough school supplies in order to motivate and empower the students to maintain a social and emotional positive mindset in class.
Once they feel confident enough to proceed with the daily lessons, they still are in need of the basic engaging, literacy resources that will nuture to high critical thinking capabilities to occur on a daily basis.
My Project
These Scholastic Magazines will be utilized to enhance grade level reading and writing deficiencies in an Intensive Reading class. Students need to make connections, and read purposefully in order to cite strong textual evidence. These Scholastic Magazines will also expose students to various controversial themes that they will have to problem solve. Students will be taught how to utilize annotations to chunk the text and have deep academic discussions to enhance the rigorous reading process. The yellow highlighters will facilitate the data gathering process. As students read various engaging topics, their world view awareness will expand and cause them to make positive and impactful decisions within their community as well.
