Relevant Reading Materials for Today's Students

Help me give my students some high-interest reading materials like Scholastic SCOPE and Junior Scholastic. Finding engaging and relevant non-fiction reading materials is incredibly challenging and the professionals at Scholastic know what students like to read!

My Students

My students come from all walks of life and many of them don't have access to magazines that are of high interest for their age. While our media center has a few from which to choose, a greater selection in the classroom would be helpful for students and engage them in different subjects and topics.

I teach many students that are reading below their grade level and over 1/2 of our students come from low income households that aren't literature rich.

For them to have access to all types of reading materials would be very beneficial for their learning.

My Project

Scholastic knows the challenge of today’s rigorous standards, especially in middle school ELA. Every issue is aligned to language arts standards and is filled with relevant content for today's learners.

Each issue includes both fiction and non-fiction articles, paired texts that help students comprehend difficult subjects, and has students think critically about what they've read.

Each magazine also has a debate topic that presents both sides of an issue, which is very helpful when teaching how to write an argumentative essay.

One of the best things about Scholastic SCOPE and Junior Scholastic is the differentiation. The activities and articles are created knowing that not all students learn the same way, on the same day. This is greatly beneficial to students, especially those that fall both below or above their grade level for reading comprehension.
