My students are emotional disturbed, autistic, other health impaired, or have a specific learning disability. All have a history of behavioral issues. Many have 6 or 7 periods a day with me in the ED room; some rotate in and out. They test academically at 1st or 2nd grade. Ninety percent are African Americans on free or reduced meals. Most have experienced some form of violence, some have medical conditions and require medications.
Even as they struggle with self-control and academic achievement, they want to integrate with regular students.
They have goals to close the gap and graduate from high school.
These bean bags will be used in an alternative seating area. We already have a carpet, and these will give students comfortable seating to read. The carpeted area has been quite successful and the bean bags will help to elevate my student learning environment.
My students need areas in our classroom that are set aside for them to manage their emotions and work on their academics.
This space will also give students another area to have classroom discussions as well as develop social skills they need for careers and college.
These bean bags will help to make the classroom more relaxing and support my students' social and emotional needs.
