I cannot say that my students "walk into my classroom" or that "I spend my day with the best 25 kids...", because I am a specialist and I am privileged enough to work with over 570 kids in my school! These students come from all walks of life to include, military families, dual-parenting, single-parent households, and even homeless children; however, every child that walks into my school deserves nothing less than the best!
The children look to their educators for love regardless of their knowledge or behavior, hope for a brighter future, and a belief that we will do what is right and always be there for them!
Every child that enters every school and every classroom deserves at least that. We as educators, owe it to them!
Our students are our future and we need to arm them with as many tools in their mental, emotional, and social toolbox as we have available to us. I have never had a child turn away from a kind gesture or listening ear. I am here today, because of them! They are my WHY!
My Project
I am always looking for ways to give the students I work with alternatives to the traditional classroom. I have never been a fan of the traditional classroom desk and hard-backed chairs, but the more years I teach and more kids I work with, the more I realize that variety is the key!
Just like adults, kids thrive when they are given the choice of how and where they learn!
I make sure I offer that to my students each and every day.
These lap desks will be used whenever the students are in my classroom working, as well as when we move out into the hallways to work. The lanyards will be for my SWAP groups (Students With A Purpose), technology helpers, and the multiple other incentive badges I have created for children (good helper, etc).
