My students need a relaxing, reading corner to read, reflect & gather thoughts and ideas. Carpets and reading chairs I requested would make their reading more enjoyable!
Do you remember wanting a chance to sit at the reading corner and relax and read? My special education 5th - 8th graders at Solomon School do. My resource room, as you see in the picture, does not have such a corner... only a chair. I would like to brighten up the space and add a nice nook!
Solomon school has a large special education population.
We are a Chicago Public School on the Northwest Side servicing many languages, cultures and students in need. Special Ed students are integrated into the general population as much as possible. Resource rooms, like mine are used for multiple grades and ages daily.
A reading corner would provide some individual relaxation, quiet time, as well as foster a safe, comfortable space for reading and reflecting.
My Project
Solomon is a low income school in the Peterson Park neighborhood of Chicago. Many students that come here are 2nd language learners who also have learning disabilities which hinder their ability to learn at the same rate as their peers.
I provide support in reading and writing to help the students gain the necessary skills to return to the general education setting for these core subjects. Your participation in helping me do that by donating to this project would help greatly.
As you have read, my students would appreciate your donation to enhancing our learning experience in room 116!
Please help support my effort to continue to provide quality learning experiences at Solomon School.
