My first graders are such enthusiastic learners! They arrive every day excited to come to school! They love learning and listening, and I enjoy seeing their faces light up when they grasp something for the first time, or learn something new! As a small, public, elementary school, we have a strong sense of community, but sometimes a smaller resource pool from which to get the supplies we need.
Each of my students has so much potential, and I am so lucky to get to take those early steps towards that potential with them!
My students learn in so many different ways, and it is so exciting when I discover what works best for each one. We love reading, science, PE, math, story time, and so much more! It is amazing how many different ways and perspectives there are to master all of these topics!
My Project
My students work so hard to master their skills. They have so much to cover in so little time. Math Time is always an especially fun time for me -- I love seeing the kids understand the different math concepts for the first time, and watching that "lightbulb" go off.
A classroom set of Rekenreks will enable my students to visualize their math as they work, helping them understand the concepts even better!
Classroom Rekenreks will give me one more tool to help my students learn. The individual sized Rekenreks (20-bead) will mean each student can have one at his/her desk. The students will be able to count out the numbers as we add, and visually remove the beads as we cover subtraction. They will also be able to group the beads, as we learn early grouping skills. The 10-row Rekenreks will be used in group settings, and by myself when illustrating bigger concepts to the class. The scratch paper will give them plenty of space to work, and the paper towels will help keep the Rekenreks clean! Elementary school is such an exciting time for my kids. Thanks for helping me maximize their learning!
